Development licenses and iFarm successfully completed

BioSort and Cermaq have successfully developed and delivered iFarm, a groundbreaking technology project to improve fish health and welfare while reducing the environmental footprint.

Over four production cycles, more than NOK 500 million was invested in iFarm development. The project yielded several important technological breakthroughs, including:

  • Advanced imaging systems for outstanding fish images
  • Fish health journals powered by individual FishID
  • A robust software infrastructure for data collection and analysis
  • The “net roof” pen concept, giving access to the entire fish population
  • Technology for extraction and handling of individual fish from the pen

This is a video showing the main elements of iFarm

Together, these achievements have laid the foundation for a new generation of aquaculture technology.

In close dialogue with Cermaq and other partners in the industry, we are now pivoting to a simplified, compact product built on the technology and knowledge developed in iFarm — and adding a new dimension: early lice intervention. At its core, our mission remains the same: to better understand fish on an individual level and take precise, targeted actions to improve their well-being.
